Extremophilic Microorganisms’ Mediated Electrosynthesis of Bio-inspired Metal Nanomaterials (BioNano)

Microbial electrosynthesis is an interesting phenomenon for directly converting CO2 to fuels or other organic commodities in which microorganisms accept electrons from an electrode to reduce the CO2 to the desired product, which is excreted from the cell. This strategy can also be utilised to make advanced metal nanomaterials for various applications. At present electro-active extremophilic microorganisms have been utilised as microbial fuel cells, however, they have not been exploited yet for electrosynthesis of metal nanomaterials. Therefore, our project aims to develop microbial eletrosynthesis of metal nanoparticles using electro-active extremophilic microorganisms as an eco-friendly approach and outcomes of this project will have great impact in nanotechnology, bioenergy and other relevant fields.
