Dear Colleagues,

The LiXS 2017 « Liquid-Xray-Spectroscopy » workshop aims to bring together the scientific community on the use of spectroscopy for the study of liquids. Thanks to recent experimental developments, it is now possible to apply powerful methods for characterizing the electronic properties of materials (X-ray photoemission, inelastic X-ray scattering, UV or IR spectroscopy) to samples in the liquid phase. These methods provide information on the local chemical properties, the structure or the light-induced ultrafast dynamics in the liquid phase and allow for a detailed characterization of the physico-chemistry of molecules in solutions or at the liquid-solid interface. The synchrotron radiation sources are an undeniable advantage in this respect thanks to their extreme brightness, tunability, focusing and control of the incident photons polarization.

During this workshop we will discuss results especially of photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS and (R)AES) combined to a liquid microjet or performed in an near ambient pressure (NAP) environment, and X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES, RIXS) associated with liquid cells. The experimental works will be highlighted by recent theoretical developments dealing with the electronic structure of liquids. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to present the latest developments in instrumentation and microfluidics.

The LiXS 2017 workshop is organized by the SOLEIL Synchrotron and will be held at SOLEIL synchrotron on January 17-18th 2017, as a satellite of SOLEIL Users meeting 2017. We look forward to welcoming you at SOLEIL.
