A PhD position at Université de Genève on "The mechanisms governing the biological responses of aquatic gastropods to metallic nanoparticles exposure under varying freshwater setting in microcosm".
The environmental impact of nanoparticles is pertinent in Europe leading potentially for accumulation of released metallic nanoparticles in environmental compartments, especially the aquatic ones. The goal of the proposed research is to get a deeper knowledge of the mechanisms governing the biological responses of aquatic gastropods to metallic nanoparticles exposure under varying freshwater setting in microcosm.
The work will be in a multidisciplinary approach by using a combination of different methods borrowed from physico-chemistry, ecotoxicology, ecology and molecular biology.
Candidates should hold a Master degree comparable to a Swiss University M.Sc in biology, biochemistry, environmental science or equivalent. The candidate should have a strong interest in scientific research and the aquatic environment. Previous experiences in cellular biology and molecular techniques or nanotoxicology will be an asset. Experimental work with gastropods, or other aquatic organisms handling will clearly be a plus. Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English is essential.
The successful candidates will prepare a doctorate thesis in the field environmental sciences, publish scientific articles related to the research project and participate in the teaching of the lab training for the Master of Environmental Science (MUSE). The salary will be in accordance with the Swiss National Science Foundation standards (www.snf.ch)
The position is expected to start 1st of February 2021. The duration is 4 years.
