September 24 – 27, 2017 7th Clay Conference, Davos, Switzerland

Clays in Natural and Engineered Barriers for Radioactive Waste Confinement

Following the success of six earlier meetings on ‘Clays in Natural and Engineered Barriers for Radioactive Waste Confinement', held in Reims (December 2002), Tours (March 2005), Lille (September 2007), Nantes (March 2010), Montpellier (October 2012) and Brussels (March 2015), the Scientific Committee of the conference recommended organising a seventh meeting on the same general topic. The recommendation was made in response to the ongoing interest of the international scientific community and in accordance with the overall opinion of the conference participants.

The meeting provides an ideal environment to assess the latest state of research, but also to foster informal contacts and discussion among specialists from various disciplines relating to clays and clay minerals, as well as scientists from organisations engaged in radioactive waste disposal or other uses of the subsurface in which clay barriers play an important role.

A broad range of topics related to natural argillaceous geological barriers and clay-based engineered barrier systems will be addressed.

The meeting will take place in Davos, Switzerland, at the Congress Centre located in the heart of the city and within walking distance from the railway stations Davos Dorf and Davos Platz. The official language of the meeting is English.

Further information on the conference or can be obtained from the Organising Committee.
