Post-doctoral Research Associate Positions available in the Departments of Plant and Soil Science and Entomology at the University of Kentucky

 

A post-doctoral research associate is needed to participate in NIH, NSF and private industry funded research projects in Unrine and Palli laboratories in the Departments of Plant and Soil Science and Entomology at the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.  The position is available immediately with funding for at least one year and a possibility of extension based on the progress and availability of funds. Financial support includes a salary of $47,400 per annum, health and life insurances, and other benefits.

 

The applicant would work with an interdisciplinary research group focused on delivery of double stranded RNA to insects using engineered nanomaterials as delivery vehicles.  The goals of the group include control of insect disease vectors and crop protection. The applicant should have a PhD in Chemistry, Entomology, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Toxicology or a closely related field.  Experience and publication in the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials and imaging and analysis of nanomaterials in biological and environmental systems is desired. Some background in molecular biology is also highly desirable.

 

The University of Kentucky is located in Lexington, Kentucky. Lexington is a mid- sized, cosmopolitan city of about 300,000 people and centrally located within a few hours driving distance to several major cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Detroit and Louisville. We are also less than an hour from great hiking, climbing and camping in the internationally renowned Red River Gorge.
